Enter a "whimsical" world filled with creatures and fodder you could only ever dream of. Hybrid animals, mushroom houses, and even your not-so-typical mermaid (Ariel doesnt have s**t on this undersea dweller!). If Alice In Wonderland and Once Upon A Time morphed together, the outcome would be this book! With every turn of a page, you become even more immersed and fascinated than when you saw the latter illustration. Kaia has truly dug into her deepest parts of her imagination and put it right on paper (which by the way is high quality stock) for us to colour. And it's absolutely brilliant. Makes me wish a world like this existed! You've never seen a colouring book like this. It's simply one of a kind, and nothing could ever match it. End of story. And I want the record to show, I usually only ever colour one picture for my reviews but I couldn't decide which one I wanted. BOTH are my favorite thing ever in the whole world and were so elegantly drawn....to be perfectly honest if I could sit and just colour the whole book right now I would, that's how hooked I was. Go on, see for yourself!

Turn on some Wolf Parade, MGMT or your favorite indie band and get to colouring in this rockin' book! This isn't an ordinary colouring book. It was made in hopes to make a difference in the world. All proceeds from sales of Indie Rock gets donated to charity. The bands featured are ones who have worked with and contributed to Yellow Bird Project and their band T-shirt mission (all proceeds from THOSE sales go to the charity of the bands' choice!). Yellow Bird Project is definitely a class act and this book will help many people. Not to mention, it's fun too! Puzzles, doodling your own pictures, and colouring how the band envisoned it makes this book unique in every way. Printed front and back, one has to be careful with markers, as the book contains a recycled type paper like in kids colouring books, so it bleeds through. BUT!, that doesn't take away from the pure awesomeness that is The Indie Rock Coloring Book! Take a look for yourself and check out my coloured page--my take on MGMT's vision for a bright, psychedelic playground! Not to mention, they're a favorite band of mine! :D So go on! Head to Amazon and buy Indie Rock! Help make a difference, and "Color Your Heart Out!"

Swirls, arrows, flowers, inspirational words (and even a hidden face!) will fill your colouring chakra to its fullest. It was fun choosing bright markers to use. The palette I chose reminded me of the Zebra Fruit Stripe Gum, so I just went with it! The way it turned out will bring me back to days of waiting at the bus stop, chewing some of that 1 second flavor lasting gum (HA!) everytime I look at it. There's somewhat of a nostalgic feel to this book, and that's what drew me in. Printed on only one side was a genius move on her part, as markers go right through. Be sure to slide a piece of paper between the pages as to not ruin the next image, and you'll be golden! Also, the lines aren't full on grayscale, but its a medium gray line, which I oddly loved because it's a change from books with those heavy black lines. With dark enough colours you can really make these pages your own, without feeling restrained within boundaries. Also while colouring in, I had purposely decided to leave negative space to accentuate those "feel good" words. The title most certainly rings true to how one should feel when one sits down to start colouring. And you'll definitely feel beyond "good" with THIS book in your arsenal! Take a sneak peek into her lovely creation! Find her book on Amazon! And be sure to head over to her page, Nadine Staaf Art <------ click here! and show some colourful love as we await a SECOND book from her! Can't wait!
Happy Colouring!! Reviewed by Kourtney Ann Ferro My husband and I have a 3 year questions journal from Anthropologie (it's wonderful) and I said to him as I was writing, "You know, there should be like a colouring journal or a 365 day colouring book or something." A few days later, we were discussing the same thing in my colouring group! It's definitely a want among coloristas everywhere. Well, you're just in luck! Cynthia Emerlye has an Etsy shop where she sells her very own Adult Colouring Journals! And I even was given a bonus in my package from her! Her mandala PORTFOLIOS! Yes you read that right, portfolios, not books! Just when you thought you've seen it all in the colouring world, trust me, you haven't! |
The "Colorista"I'm Kourtney, and I'm a mother of two litle girls and the wife of a Navy sailor. I review colouring books and products for publishers and art supply companies to give my Coloristas a guide to buying and growing their collections. And of course I love to colour any chance I get (mostly when the kids are asleep!)
