The Nature Coloring Book is a new book coming out in August that has everything to do with the outdoors---plants, flowers, and animals fill this book. The binding is flexibound so it's very sturdy (not paperback, but not hardcover, somewhat inbetween). The pages are one sided prints, which is great for those who like to layer with markers. I used markers on my test page and they did not bleed through until I layered one spot with three layers of colour, so the paper is decent quality. The linework varies from very thin and faint, to bold black lines. With over 120 images to colour, you'll definitely get a lot of colouring hours in for a decent price. There was a couple things I didn't like about this book. So many of the pages are images of birds. So many more animals could have been incorporated in here, but every other page I felt was another image of a different type of bird. I mean this is the NATURE coloring book, not the bird coloring book. The other tiff I had was some of its pages don't have a purpose. There are just 4 or 5 images pasted onto one page, not as a scene, just as a collage of animals. This I feel was a bit lazy because a whole scene of the animals incorporated with each other would have looked loads better than just the "copy and paste" look of a bunch of things on one page. You'll see what I mean in the slideshow with an image of sea animals. Other than that, it's a decent book that can aide in bettering one's shading skills as well as for those just starting out in this trend who want an easier selection of illustrations to colour due to there being lots of simple, not so intricate pages. Take a look! If this is the book for you, you can preorder The Nature Coloring Book right on Amazon! Thank you to Thunder Bay for sending me their book for review!

Get ready to add THIS to your Amazon wishlist because it's so popular its already out of print since its release date by Penguin books on July 16th! If you like your colouring books by Millie Marotta and Johanna Basford, this will be one of your new favorites! The talented British designer has brought us The Magical City, which takes you on a cultural adventure like no other. With a new twist on architectual designs iwth a little whimsy, explore cities like Paris and Rome, and even visit the Space Needle in Seattle! You'll love bringing these cityscapes to life with brilliant colour. I may or may not be partial to Selina Fenech's colouring books, being that I'm literally obsessed with mermaids, but the amount of talent she has in lush hair and shiny scales is brilliant and I absolutely LOVE this book. She captures the beauty of these creatures of the sea in the conventional way we envision a mermaid, as well as the the not so conventional. And she does it tastefully and beautifully. This is also my first review that has a bonus product review, as I received Mermaids: Calm Ocean Coloring Collection and a coloured pencils set that Ohuhu sent me for review. I figured I would give them a whirl in Selina's book to see how they went, and am I glad I did! And they were really just lovely in this book! Take the overgrown path less traveled, and enter a mysterious world where wolves lurk in the shadows, the screeches of owls gives you goosebumps, and curious creatures live in harmony with nature. This gorgeous hardcover colouring book is calling out to be brought to life with lots of colour, and maybe a touch of magic.
Mindfulness...what does it actually mean to "be mindful". Honestly, in today's world of being plugged in and eyes to a screen the majority of the day, I feel as though not many know what it means to be mindful. Life just passing by as we tune into the latest and greatest on social media. In other words, do you know what's going on in this moment right now? Before I sat to write this review, I was sitting on my couch and found myself so immersed in my Facebook, I glanced up to see where my little one was crawling too, but instead looked up to see my oldest giving her little sis one of her toys. It was the cutest thing, her helping. Ava never shares; she's a toddler, she's learning. And then I thought, well maybe she's done this before but I've just never seen it. I started to watch them closely, and the way she interacted with the baby. I felt so proud of her, happy that I've done my job as a parent to teach our 2 year old to be mindful of her almost 9 month old sister, as I was being mindful in watching them right now. Reflecting. Emotions. Living in the moment happening right in front of you. That is mindfulness. And more need to do so, which is why so many adults colour! Though Emma Farraron's and her best seller may help steer people in the right direction to becoming more mindful! Ok so every time I would go to Amazon this book would always pop up as a recommended buy, but there were never any images so I wasn't too sure about it and while the cover was cool, without seeing inside it still wasn't enough to draw me in. Luckily, thanks to Perigee Books, they sent it to me for review! Each page is by a different well known or underground artist. And I have to say, it's a doozy of a colouring book--- in a good and bad way. |
The "Colorista"I'm Kourtney, and I'm a mother of two litle girls and the wife of a Navy sailor. I review colouring books and products for publishers and art supply companies to give my Coloristas a guide to buying and growing their collections. And of course I love to colour any chance I get (mostly when the kids are asleep!)
