**Click the photo images to bring you to the product on Amazon** A second book in Catris' Colour Me Mindful Series, Tropical features loads of plants and animals of the rainforests and tropical climates (and even a delicious tropical looking drink, YUM!). Looking at the illustrations, I couldn't help but think how gorgeous they would look coloured in pencil because of all the shading and blending opportunities, so here I decided to utilize the second product given to me by Staedtler---Ergosoft colored pencils. I'm glad the editors kept her series uniform in sizes, as well as paper quality. There's still some tooth to the paper, but it's still thick enough to with hold ink, HOWEVER, with all the layering I did with pencils, it does make your stroke impressions on the back of the paper, so when you run your hand over the back of the page, it ahs that textured bumpy feel from the indentations. Just be careful, a warning to all my coloristas with heavy hands! Grab your bug spray and journey into this tropical paradise with me.... I even decided to add a little soft pastel to the background which took beautifully to the paper and added some leaves :) The Ergosoft pencils worked lovely in the book as well. The colours are vibrant and they're easily blendable for nice shading results. The triangular, non slip barrel makes it extremely comfortable to hold. Another plus to these pencils is the white inner core (notice the white ring surrounding the green core in the image) that prevents the soft pigment core from breakage. Like many see in prismacolor premiers and other soft core pencils, if the pencil is dropped, the inner core shatters, so when you sharpen, the core constantly breaks off. With this preventable white core, breakage is very rare in the ergo softs, and they sharpen nicely without losing too much of the pencil. They come in 12 or 24 colour sets packaged in a sturdy easel case. Here's the colour selection.... Not a very extensive colour range, but the blending capabilities allow you to achieve more than just these colours here when combining two or more pencils.

The "Colorista"I'm Kourtney, and I'm a mother of two litle girls and the wife of a Navy sailor. I review colouring books and products for publishers and art supply companies to give my Coloristas a guide to buying and growing their collections. And of course I love to colour any chance I get (mostly when the kids are asleep!)
