Want to go on a sight seeing journey around the world?! Koneko will take you there! While the title may remind you of your childhood days in front of the PC playing Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego?, it's actually just like Where's Waldo, in every sense except this book you can colour! (and you're searching for a cute fluffy cat and her friends while they go on a worldly adventure!)

All of my "abstract loving" coloristas out there, this book is for YOU! Filled to the brim with odd shapes, and twisted rising "scultpure like" illustrations leave you in wonder to interpret what they look like in your eyes! Rorschach would defintely approve! (ya know, the dude who created the inkblot test!)
Ellen Million Graphics is a part of this worldwide trend of adult colouring as well, but what sets their books apart from all the rest? Well, for one, their area of expertise is fantasy worlds, which I love! But more importantly, these books are a collaboration of different artists creating a book together! While you have one ongoing themed book, you get a variety of different drawing styles to colour in and it really keeps the interest! These three books really caught my eye and they are absolutely gorgeous illustrations!
While the title of this colouring book may lead you to believe that you'll be colouring an endless amount of birds and butterflies...don't worry...you will be! BUT it's NOT bleak and boredom won't set in. There are some bird species in here that aren't often featured in colouring books. And there are other critters thrown in there to peek one's interest! Birds and Butterflies is a nicely illustrated book, containing smooth, crisp linework, however, it doesn't lose that hand drawn feel that we all know and love when it comes to good books. I paired this book review with a product review of Sakura Gelly Roll pens SOLELY because of a single black background page in Chadwick's book. I thought it would be PERFECT to show off the Moonlight gellies! Let's dive on in shall we?! I had the wonderful opportunity to review a couple coloring books by the talented Sue Coccia! Sue, the creator of EarthArt International, gathered her inspiration for her art from her Grandmother's Grandmother, who was Native American. That tiny bit of heritage had a huge influence on her unique pen and ink drawings of animals. She has a big love for animals. So much so that a portion of her profits from sales goes to the preservation of animals and their natural habitat and the National Wildlife Federation has recognized her last home as a certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat. How cool is that! Founded in 1832, Derwent, a UK based company, has been making fine art pencils for over 180 years! They take pride in their high quality products as well as innovating and developing BETTER products for future artists. With many materials to choose from, I've heard loads of people taking to their Coloursoft pencils, so here I am with a review so I can let you all know if they live up to all the raving! |
The "Colorista"I'm Kourtney, and I'm a mother of two litle girls and the wife of a Navy sailor. I review colouring books and products for publishers and art supply companies to give my Coloristas a guide to buying and growing their collections. And of course I love to colour any chance I get (mostly when the kids are asleep!)
